What exactly causes sensitivity?
1. Enamel erosion: Brushing too hard, acidic foods, soft drinks and grinding habits can slowly wear down enamel.
2. Cavities:Decay creates small holes that expose the inner layers of the tooth. Even a small cavity can cause strong sensitivity.
3. Gum recession:Gums can move down due to brushing pressure or gum infection. When this happens the root surface becomes exposed and can cause sharp pain.
4. Cracked or fractured teeth:Even a tiny crack can let cold or sweet substances reach the nerve.
5. Worn-out dental fillings:Old fillings shrink or develop gaps over time which can lead to sudden sensitivity.
6. Recent dental treatment: Whitening, deep cleaning or new fillings can sometimes cause temporary sensitivity.
